Ross Benincasa, Senior Vice President of Community Development for Chesapeake Community Development and a partner at Rivers & Roads, is spearheading the project. His leadership is pivotal in guiding the vision for these developments, which include affordable and market-rate housing options, retail, and recreational spaces designed to enhance the quality of life for Easton residents. “Our vision is to bring a vibrant multi-purpose space to the community that incorporates a wide range of amenities and resources, including much-needed housing,” Benincasa said.

The project team has been committed to gathering input from the community throughout the planning process. Two community listening sessions, facilitated by Rivers & Roads consultant Chris Wheedleton, have been held to ensure that local residents and stakeholders have a voice in shaping the future of Easton Crossing and Silo Square. These sessions provided valuable insights on topics such as housing affordability, design elements, infrastructure improvements, and safety concerns.

Wheedleton emphasized the importance of early community engagement in this process. “It’s unusual for a developer to seek community input so early, and that’s what makes this project special. We want the community to be an active participant in shaping these developments from the ground up,” Wheedleton said. The feedback gathered will directly influence the design and implementation phases, ensuring the project reflects the needs and character of the Easton community.

Easton Crossing and Silo Square will be developed in phases, with construction expected to begin in 2025, pending approvals. The mixed-use developments will combine residential, commercial, and green spaces in a cohesive, inclusive environment. Local partners, including Chesapeake Neighbors and RAUCH, Inc., are playing key roles in delivering quality housing and architectural design, while BuilderGuru Contracting will lead construction efforts.

This redevelopment represents a major opportunity for Easton, addressing the growing need for affordable housing and providing spaces for businesses, entertainment, and public engagement. As part of Chesapeake Community Development’s mission to build inclusive, accessible communities, these projects will serve as a foundation for long-term growth and prosperity in the area.

Rivers & Roads is proud to contribute its expertise in community development, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement to the success of Easton Crossing and Silo Square.
