Marketing and Strategy Development for Quintessential Main Street, USA
Chestertown, Maryland, a quaint, Main Street America-accredited historic town along the banks of the Chester River, is one of Maryland’s most iconic downtowns. It’s Hallmark-style streets adorned with hanging signs and Elizabethan facades harken visitors back to a former time, an image that we set out to capture, while featuring all of the new advancements taking place, when we created their new marketing campaigns and web site.
Like many small towns, Chestertown is powered by its volunteers and locally owned businesses. When we stepped in as general consultants to reshape their marketing and aide them in a search for their next Executive Director, we did so with an understanding that the businesses and charm of its downtown would be the reigning selling points for this waterfront destination.
Unlike other tourist-oriented towns, Chestertown’s streets were dominated by the local bread baker and small sandwich shop, not the t-shirt racks and tchotchke emporiums that dot most seaside communities. Those local stories were paramount in not only the marketing that was to take place, but also in finding the right leader to take the reigns from a beloved founding director.
