This appointment, made by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, recognizes Chris’s extensive experience and commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable workforce initiatives.

The OLP, co-chaired by the Maryland Secretary of Natural Resources and the State Superintendent of Schools, is a collaborative body comprising representatives from state and federal agencies, educational institutions, and private organizations. Building on the legacy of Project Green Classrooms and the Maryland Partnership for Children in Nature, the OLP is tasked with ensuring equitable access to environmental education for all Maryland students, fostering green workforce skills, and strengthening the state’s role in environmental sustainability. Chris joins the Partnership as one of two business community representatives, recognized for his leadership in supporting a sustainable workforce.

As a fourth-generation steward of his family’s farm in southeast Dorchester County, Chris brings a deep-rooted commitment to Maryland’s natural landscape and a long-standing dedication to sustainable practices. “I am honored to contribute to the Maryland Outdoor Learning Partnership and to help shape the future of environmental education across the state,” Chris said. “Environmental literacy and outdoor experiences are vital for preparing students to navigate our changing world and for strengthening our local communities. I’m excited to work alongside a talented group of professionals dedicated to these goals.”

The responsibilities of the OLP include conducting a comprehensive review of environmental education efforts, supporting local schools in integrating climate and environmental literacy, and recommending strategies to increase outdoor learning opportunities for youth across Maryland. Additionally, the Partnership will collaborate on initiatives that reduce the environmental impact of school buildings, support teacher training, and promote pathways into the growing green workforce. These initiatives align with the broader priorities of the Chesapeake Bay Program and Maryland’s Blueprint for the Future.

Through his role on the OLP, Chris will participate in working groups focused on environmental literacy, green careers, access to nature, school sustainability, and network collaboration. By engaging with community partners and stakeholders, he will support the OLP’s mission to empower Maryland’s youth to become climate-ready and environmentally responsible citizens.
